In case you were wondering which positions are providing the highest scoring, out of the top twenty players:  12 are QB, 5 are RB, and 3 are D (the first K is #23, the first WR is #24, and the first TE is #82)  In 2001 the final top twenty by position was:  13 QBs, 5 RBs, 2 WRs.

Best active player: Tom Brady,  averaging 50.3 PPG, not too bad for a 10th round pick, or 120th overall.  One upon a time Randy Moss was drafted in the same position...
Worst active player:  Plaxico Burress
, averaging –0.5, or less than DeShawn Foster who hasn’t even played in a game yet.  Unbelievably bad for an uninjured 5th rounder.

Best player, first round draft: Priest Holmes, averaging 38.3 PPG and ranks #6 overall.
Worst player, first round draft:
Shawn Alexander
, averaging 7.7 PPG and ranks #128 overall.

Best player, second round draft: Donovan McNabb, averaging 45.7 PPG and ranks #2 overall.
Worst player, second round draft:
Curtis Martin
, averaging 3.3 PPG and ranks #162 overall.

Best player, third round draft: Drew Bledsoe, averaging 37.3 PPG and ranks #7 overall.
Worst player, third round draft:
Jerome Bettis
, averaging 2.0 PPG and ranks #168 overall but has only played two games.  Worst after three games: Isaac Bruce, averaging 5.7 PPG and ranks #144 overall.

Biggest/most pleasant surprises:  Brady is the obvious answer…but a couple others of note would be Charlie Garner, a 6th rounder who after two games is averaging 45 PPG and ranks #3 overall.  Also, Lamar Smith, drafted in the 12th round (144th overall) is averaging 28 PPG and ranks #15 overall.  VEGA, with both Brady & Smith, looks like a genius.

Biggest disappointments:  The former QB studs Kurt Warner & Jeff Garcia.  They ended the 2001 season averaging about 34 PPG and ranked #1 & #2 respectfully, but after three games are ranked #85 & #95, averaging 12-13 PPG. To date Warner’s crappy play has not prevented the High Tech Rednecks from going 3-0, but Garcia is a major factor in PRI’s 0-3 start.  Ouch.

By the way, I’ll leave my SFFL team rankings/ratings/opinions for the midseason report…
